The government of the Punjab School education department issued the latest notification about m.a education is equal to m.ed on 18 October 2021. NO SO(SE-D1-58/2015: Pursuant to the recommendations of the Qualification Equivalence Determination Committee (QEDC), in its meeting held on 30.09.2020, it is notified that the degree of MA (Education) may be considered as Academic as well as a professional qualification. Hence, the degree of M.A ( Education ) is equivalent to M. Ed.

Punjab School Education Department issued notification NO.SO SE-) 1-58/2016 on 11/11/2020 regarding the equivalency of M.A(Education) to M.ed and B.ed. In addition, the meeting was scheduled under the chairmanship of the Special Secretary School Education Department. Meeting held to decide M.A(Education) both as Professional and Academic qualification. The agenda of the meeting is to consider M.A Education as a professional degree for teachers. Following members nominated by School Education, Punjab Department attended the meeting.

1. Dr. Muhammad Suhail Shahzad, Chairman Special Secretary (Operation), School Education Department.

2. Mr. Dilawar Hussain Member Section Officer (R-II), Regulations Wing, Services & General Administration Department.

3. Mr. Zahoor Ahmad, Director IV, Punjab Public Service Commission, Lahore.

Is M.A (Education) is equal to M.ed and B.ed?

a) The teacher, educator, and subject specialists appointed against the subject of Education are not considered for regularization due to M.A (Education) as an academic degree and no other professional degree of B.Ed or M.Ed.

b) What can be the status of M.A (Education) as compared to B.Ed or M.Ed.?

Conclusion of Meeting

After detailed discussion, all members of the committee has come to the conclusion as follows:

A. As a discipline, in the subject education teaching methodology taught.

B. It was decided that the degree of M.A (Education) is equivalent to M.Ed.This degree is a higher degree in comparison with B.Ed. Moreover, the syllabus of M.A (Education) is more than the M.Ed. Therefore, the teachers, appointed in the School Education Department for the subject of Education by having M.A (Education), will not require any further qualification of B.Ed or M.Ed. In conclusion, the degree of M.A (Education) may be considered as Academic as well as a professional qualification and degree.
